Rocky Patel Dark Star
Wrapper: Corojo
Binder: Paraguay and Honudran
Filler: Paraguay and Honudran
This week I am reviewing Dark Star by Rocky Patel. It is a new release that came out at this year’s trade show. This cigar has a Corojo wrapper and the binder and filler is Paraguay and Honduran tobacco. This blend is a solid medium blend and it showcases Rocky’s expertise and experience in the cigar industry.
Upon the first light I tasted some cedary and cocoa notes which then transitioned into some spicy and peppery notes, which tasted more like a red pepper and later morphed into black pepper taste. I also tasted a lot of savory notes mixed in with a little cocoa powder and hints of espresso. These notes continued for a while.
At the halfway note I tasted some bitterness which lasted for a few minutes. The bitterness tasted like some of the tobacco was a little young or at least that’s what it reminded me of. In the final third of this cigar I started to get some citrus notes and pepper but this time it reminded me more of black pepper. I also tasted some flavor notes that I couldn’t quite make out but nonetheless it was enjoyable.
The cigar remained a solid medium bodied smoke throughout the time that I was smoking it. In the end I didn’t get any more bitterness, overall it turned out to be a great smoke. We carry 3 sizes: Robusto, Toro and Gordo. Look for it in our Rocky Patel Section next time you come in and give it a shot if you want to try something new!
