Rocky Patel Sixty Robusto
Wrapper: Mexican San Andres Wrapper
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Rocky Patel Sixty is by default Cigar Aficionados Number 1 cigar of the year even though it is listed as Number 2 due to the Number 1 spot going to a Cuban Cigar.
Congratulations to the team at Rocky Patel for getting such a high honor this year and making the Cigar Aficionado list! Sixty is a cigar that Rocky Patel made to celebrate his 60th birthday. He chose a Mexican San Andreas Wrapper and Nicaraguan Binder and Filler to complete this blend. The Tobacco was aged for 2 years before being box pressed. Enough of the background information let’s light up this cigar and see what it’s all about!
When I started smoking this cigar I got some licorice, chocolate and spicy notes which started off this smoke fantastic. These notes continued on for the first half of the smoke along with some creamy hot chocolate notes and a small amount of pepper in the background. At about the halfway point I started to taste some leather and woodiness with cream in the background. This cigar is a consistent medium to full body cigar from beginning to end. After smoking for a while I started to get some black pepper flavor notes with some spice in the background. I even got a hint of a graham cracker-like sweetness that I had to really pay attention to. This cigar ended a little more full bodied than it started which made it a very enjoyable smoke!
The next time you come into the shop you definitely have to head over to the Rocky Patel section and give it a try. We stock the Robusto size and the Toro size. They are both box pressed and an excellent cigar!
