My Father Cigars La Promesa Lancero
Wrapper: Ecuador (habano oscuro)
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Today I am reviewing La Promesa by My Father Cigars.
La Promesa means “The Promise” which is a way for Don Pepin Garcia to make good on the promise that he gave to his family before leaving Cuba that he would be successful. I chose to review the lancero size because I enjoy lanceros and I know there is a small demographic that love lanceros too. I personally believe that they don’t get enough love. Here is a tribute to the Lancero size!
As I lit up this cigar I got a very earthy note right off the bat mixed with a little grass or hay. It didn’t take long to turn into pepper and coffee notes. As I kept smoking the pepper became more prevalent and there were leathery notes in the background of the smoke. In just the first few minutes there were several transitions, with the most recent note going from pepper to spice. When I say spice it was pretty close to a Chili Pepper. So far this cigar is gearing up to be one of the most complex smokes that I’ve had in a while. Those who know me know I smoke what I like and like what I smoke and I smoke a lot but it is rare that a cigar wows me. This is starting to wow me. Let’s see if that continues to be the case!
As I smoked the cigar down for a little while I started to get woodsy and graham cracker notes with a muted version of the spice in the background. The rest of the cigar mellowed out with combinations of those flavor notes and stayed pretty consistent until the end.
If you like Lanceros this is one of the few My Father Lanceros available in the humidor.
